The region of Tuscany is a cultural center of Italy in our century and has been since early times. Until the 12th century, surnames were nearly unheard of. People only had one name because that was all that was required to distinguish them from one another. At first, these names were individual and were not passed on from father to child, but eventually this practice also caught on and surname became hereditary.
The name Beccari was traced to its source in Siena, a city in Tuscany, capital of the homonymous province. Notable is the university, but the cathedral and other fine buildings present a beauty rich in italian art, which in unequalled. Many of the buildings are from the 12th, 13th and 14th century, but the history precedes to the time of Augustus. In those ancient times, only persons of rank as the podesta, clergy, city officials, army officers, artists and landowners were entered into the records. The names Beccari, Beccaria, Beccarini, Bechi, Becchi, Beccuti, Beccuto, Becelli, Behetti, Beccaris, Beccai, Beccarelli, Baccari, Bacari, Becari are all variations on the name Beccari and all share the same origin.
